Kitchen VS Bookshelves

I came across this one quite some time ago, I hope it's not too late to share it now. OK, how often could you find a big bookshelf in the kitchen?
The idea didn't even crossed my mind until I saw this.

The open plan kitchen belongs to (and designed by) the owner of Leone Design Studio. No wonder, eh..

The freestanding bookshelf also function as a room divider while still having visual connection between the divided rooms. Not to mention it would easily served as a display for you collection - not just books.

I like how the bookshelves is not fully floor to ceiling, leaving a gap above and below making it float-like.

And do you see the table and stools between the kitchen set and the bookshelf? They are on wheels! So it's super easy to move them around and use them for many things. The table could function as a kitchen island or dining table or reading/ working desk.. how simple yet cool is that.

inaku™ on SPICE!

I've spent these last couple of weeks in Jakarta only to commute between hospital and home.. so much for a fun year end holiday. Began with my hubby and his chronic laryngitis, then my son's high fever, then me, my mother, now it's my other son who has a high fever. Hopefully everything will fall to it's place.. soon, insha Allah.

So when I heard about inaku™ being featured in SPICE! Magazine November 2010, it's a real pick me up! Thanks so much Amesh for the opportunity, and also Puri for the scanned pics ;)

Built-In Storages in Small Space

I came across this article and thought I'd share with you some of my favourites which will suit well in a small space.

I'm sure you've seen some floor to ceiling book shelves, yet these ones caught my interest since they're nicely put in often ignored space.

Like this one in a narrow hall, complete with display of pictures on the opposite wall.

Or this one which frames the outdoor view, creates a small reading nook by the window.

This next one is also a floor to ceiling storage, but it's for shoes! I really should built this baby :D

1 Room 3 Looks

Same room, same furnitures, different accessories. Then what do you get? Completely different looks!

Note how the only big difference is on the wall hanging. The throw pillows? They are the same, only changed the cover. The table lamps? Only changed the top cap. Even the area rug is the same, but they put different smaller rugs on top of it. How easy is that :)

Tempur

Tempur is the name of a village at the hillside of Gunung Muria (Mount Muria), not too far from the city of Jepara. It boasts one of the most beautiful natural view I've ever seen!

I had fun playing with fresh cool water in it's mountain river :)

Eid Mubarak!

Taqabbalallâhu minnâ wa minkum
May Allah accept from us and you (our fasts and deeds)

I had a chance to visit the Great Demak Mosque (Masjid Agung Demak) on the way to my husband's hometown. It is one of the historical and oldest mosques in Indonesia, you could feel its rich culture.

Since it's forbidden to take pictures inside the mosque, I could only take some snapshots of the exterior.

for the teachers

I decided to make (very simple) bags for my kids' teachers. They're actually made from tea towel I bought at IKEA, I really love the colors and motives so I kinda hacked and used them as fabric material instead.

I didn't put any lining inside so the bag came out more like a foldable roomy shopping bag. I didn't put any embroidery or embellishments either since I couldn't find any that suit both my preference and my kids'. But I think it turned out nice - simple yet nice. Hopefully the teachers will have some good use to it :)

Happy Teacher's Day!

Teacher's Day in Spore is on September 1, where it's school holiday and the celebrations usually conducted the day before, which means tomorrow and I still haven't made any appreciation gift for my kids' teachers.

I did made some Teacher's Day reversible bags and pouches, but those are customized orders. I even forgot to take a picture of the pouches before I sent them to their owners.

For the bags I used mostly colorful Batik and Tenun Troso (handwoven fabric).

Now if could just whip up a simple yet pretty gift for my kids' teachers to be given tomorrow..

more dress refashion

Before my new muse came, I had done another refashion. This time I made a maxi dress from a cotton batik fabric and an old cotton jersey turtle neck shirt. The batik was a birthday present from a dear friend a couple of years ago. Yup, my fabric stash goes all the way back..

I just sewed the batik into tube shape and attached it to the bodice part of the shirt. That's it. No rocket science involved, apparently. It's so comfy and if I want it to be more shapely I could always cinch a belt.

Actually I'm thinking of adding a batik rosette, just hope I'm in the mood to make it soon :D

for the love of music

Hubby bought me an electric acoustic guitar :D

Now I'm still trying to get the hang of it since it's steel stringed, different from my previous classical guitar with nylon string.

Looks like my sewing machine is going to get dusty again.

Tall Buildings in Hong Kong

It's nice to see with my own eyes some buildings that I used to only see and read about in books.

The view from our hotel room with Central Plaza.

Marhaban Ya Ramadan.. Welcoming this holy month, at this first day I wish we all could make the best of it.

With hubby's birthday and our wedding anniversary around the corner, we had a weekend getaway, before the kids started their school exams. It was exhausting yet fun! Alhamdulillah :)

Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you deny? (Qur'an 55:13)

a bag refashion

My mother got this from my sister (which she got from her office), a neon yellow tote bag with a product logo on it.

Well, you could understand why my mother hasn't use the bag inspite of it being a gift from her daughter.

I told my mother that I'll make over the bag which she happily agree and she requested it to be in neutral shade of brown color.

Then I found this batik among my fabric stash and made some kind of sleeve to cover the outer part of the bag. I'm quite satisfied with the result, since it's a simple refashion yet gives a significant difference.

Just hope my mother likes her 'new' bag :)

Blog Award

Thanks Pimpi of Sawo Kecik for this Versatile Blogger Award ;) Sorry for the delay of posting this, it's just that I'm not so sure what to write about myself. Oh well, here it goes, 7 things about me:

1. I'm Moody. I mean REALLY moody.

2. I don't play by the rules most of the times.

3. I don't fancy cooking nor baking. But I do like to eat, though :P

4. I dig the Green Architecture concept, even had my final year project based on that. Yet I'm no green thumb, I failed on my every attempt at gardening.

5. My ultimate muse is not sewing nor designing.. it's music. There isn't a day when I feel too fed up to pick my guitar and sing some songs.

6. I'm more of an indoor introvert type (while my hubby's the opposite! Opposites do attract you know :))

7. I'm writing this on a rainy morning in my living room and thinking of making a cup of hot chocolate. Yum!

OK, next, I'll give the award to (drumrolls please):
1. Mbak Lia of Calyx
2. Rania of Fashioning Faith
3. Luluk of The Green Corner
4. Syanti of Rumahku Tie
5. Pimpi of Sawo Kecik (thanks for the award, here's another one for you ;))
