Home Reno: Kids Room

The only room that's pretty much done is my twin boys' bedroom. 

I designed the room to be a loft bedroom, while the boys take part in choosing the wall paint color and the flooring. We also discussed the room layout together :) 

We didn't purchase any new furniture for this room. The only thing that's 'new' is an old rocking chair made of teak wood, which we got from granny in Jepara.

From bunk bed to playhouse, just by throwing a fabric.

The kids' temporary bedroom (yes, it's temporary since the boys definitely need more space.. they grow so fast!) is almost done. Still insufficient storage, but we're progressing for sure.

Although we could barely walk through the living room since it's still full with piles of boxes, I'm definitely in a better mood now :)

The Playroom

I saw this playroom in Cheri's blog and very much amazed!
She managed to synchronize the kids' and parents' idea of a perfect playroom. You know how sometimes we adults tend to give way to the mess that the kids refer as fun, or at least I do. Yet with a playroom like this there's no way to complain, really.

Inspiration: Strawberries

On last holiday to my homeland (why oh why I only get inspired during holiday trips), we went to this nice small restaurant with a small strawberry field where we could handpick the fresh red fruits. Though I prefer the strawberries to be served with chocolate fondue or as milkshakes or garnished on a cheesecake, yet the fresh whole fruit is already tempting with its red delicious color. *hey wait a minute.. I'm not trying to write a culinary review here.. oh well*

Anyway, one of my twin boys LLove strawberries. Why? Simply because they're RED (guess what his favourite color is ;)).

Maybe I should say (write) that this 'Inspiration:' not only comes from strawberries, but also from children as well. At first I want it to be something that all children (girls and boys) can enjoy. But then my feminine side won ;) and here it goes, the Pink Strawberry series :)

The Pink Strawberry series comprise of pink colored cushion covers complete with a (yes, pink) table runner, all with pretty red strawberries on it. The design is sweet and fun enough for the small girls, yet simple and elegant enough for their mommies too :D

Your lil girls will love to have her tea party table dressed in this pretty runner. Yet, it can also serve as bed runner or wall display! The lovely tassels effortlessly enhance the fun in a girly manner.


And ofcourse don't forget about the versatile pillow/ cushion. As a floor cushion in the playroom, or a throw pillow on the couch in the nursery room, or a huggable accent pillow for the girls' bed, or in anyway you can think of (like on your terrace chair for that pink twist in the midst of your garden's greeneries).

When Perfect Is Not The Goal

How do you think a house dedicated to children would look like?

A far cry from a typical kindergarten.. or not?

I found a nice article in New York Times (click this posting's title to view the original article) featuring the subject, and still can't figure out till now how on earth can I make my house like that. I mean, ofcourse I LLOVE my children, but I don't think I would let them do their art homework on my designer couch.. and not to mention PAINT the couch!

Yet, a mother in this article did.


It said that she and her family used to live 'in a temple of architectural perfection' but found out that it didn't make their life perfect. So now she's going in a different direction, and somehow I find it fun and posh at the same time.



At least I can look at it and nod to how a bit clutter or messy state can become amusing if it's saying all about your life.

About The Little Ones

For you who live with 'the most important people in the world' (in IKEA's term) - children - especially the small ones, would probably very aware of how they 'rule' the house with their toys and other stuffs.

And you are probably still sitting on the fence when it comes to make decisions: What is the best arrangement for my kids' room? How can I make it? What do I need to put in there? etc..

Not to mention we who live in small space, have to do extra effort to fit all of our necessities AND for the children's as well.
But no worries, coz I've found a 'Children's Knowledge Book' here for your rescue ;)

Multifunctional Side Table

Here's another versatile design from Ikea, the Hatten side table. With sleek metal legs and transparent plastic top, it's speaking in a modern language (in a low budget too).

So it's a table, with a removable top which can function as a tray as well, and it has a space underneath for storage. Ikea claims that this piece is perfect for outdoor furniture, say at the patio, for the storage can hold some cool drinks and the tray can be used to serve them.

But I'm not really buying it because even the top is made of plastic (which is weatherproof I suppose), but the legs are made of chromed metal which I don't think can stand in my area's humidity.

Yet I would still have it for indoor use though (I'm nuts about transparent furnitures, works great in my small space), let say in the kids bedroom, for toys storage. Or even as a bed side table (for ones that into modern-retro style, this piece's a steal).

The Panton Chair

Here's one of my favourite cantilever chair from the late Danish architect and designer Verner Panton, named the 'Panton Chair' after him.

Why is it so special to me because it's simple timeless design, comes in many fun colours and it's also available in kids size ones, 'Panton Junior'.

What more can you ask for?
