Home Reno: Kids Room

The only room that's pretty much done is my twin boys' bedroom. 

I designed the room to be a loft bedroom, while the boys take part in choosing the wall paint color and the flooring. We also discussed the room layout together :) 

We didn't purchase any new furniture for this room. The only thing that's 'new' is an old rocking chair made of teak wood, which we got from granny in Jepara.

Home Reno - Week 27

No, our home reno is not finished.

The master bathroom is not done yet, but since the reno is long overdue, we decided to move in!

Yes. No kidding.

Since the house is still in mess, here's a glimpse of my bedroom only.

Not bad, eh? 

Yeah the truth is, the other half of my bed  is cluttered with unorganized clothings and other random stuff :p 

Wishlist - Au Naturel

The following are some things that are on my wishlist right now. Actually it's a pretty long list, but I thought I'd share just a glimpse to save you from boredom.

The items here are random, but you might notice that they are somewhat have a thing in common. Natural. Raw. Rustic.

I was torn between having a glossy light colored floor or a dark rustic one. Since my house is quite small and I'd like to make it look more spacious by maximizing light colored surface, I compromised by having the dark floor only in small areas. As for the bronze metallic tile like in the above picture, I was lucky to find similar tile at the nearest Mitra 10 store.. Yay! Those tiles will be covering the master bedroom floor, for the intimate rustic-glam look I'm after.

I'm not in the pink of health these last few weeks, so it's only normal if I took more time (trying) to rest and relax. I hope this detoxifying natural clay mask will help me in doing so. Instant spa, just a click away ;)

My Pinterest is full of furniture references that are made of natural reclaimed materials and has raw-industrial feel to it, but they are all made abroad, far from Indonesia where I reside. So I was overjoyed to find the above coffee table is available in Bali! But then I'm thinking about the shipping fee and have a 2nd thought.. hopefully I could find something similar here in Jakarta.

I'm picturing this rustic sliding door as the master bathroom door. Hopefully the contractor could find all the right materials and make it come true.

White Bedroom Makeover

Actually I've done this last month, but better late post than never.. right? ;)
You've probably seen my bedroom in both cheerful and dark color scheme. I also love to use warm neutral colors like brown and beige, but this is actually my first time to go super neutral.. all white.

Then I thought the Batik throw pillow would be a nice accent.. don't you think?

Where I Sew

Here's more from my new sewing room, or what my kids call my office :D It was a room filled with clutter of old stuff, boxes and suitcases. After what seems to be an endless job, it's now finally coming together.

The old squeaky chair is my mother's. My hubby offered to change the wheels, but I'd rather get a whole new chair instead :)) Another one to add to my long wishlist.

We spent hours discussed which cabinet to get, but it's all worth it.. not to mention it's on sale! Yay! Hubby has hacked one of the display cubicle to make way for my sewing machine.. thank you dear ;)

And of course.. the day bed! It's oh so comfy and we get to use the space underneath to store stuff that we rarely use.


Though small, I'm so happy that I finally have my own sewing room. Well, actually it also functions as the guest bedroom, but we rarely have sleep over guests anyway.


I still need to add some details to the room.. will update the progress with you all here!

Starry Night

To the space and beyond!

The boys have a star shaped night lamp and I put a hand towel under making them look like a shooting star. Then hubby mounted the boys' swimming boards on their bedroom's glass door which kinda resemble space rockets :D

Fabric Wall Art: an upcycling project

I've been wanting to make a fabric panel wall art but haven't found (read: too lazy to look for) the right supplies yet. You know, the one where you stretch a fabric on wood frame (the one for stretching canvas) then fasten it with a staple gun.

So recently I've made my own version of the wall art for the boys' bedroom, after done unpacking almost half of our stuff from the boxes. I made adjustments on the supplies by using leftovers and existing everyday materials.

My formula is:
styrofoam + fabric + tacks + double tape = wall art

How to:
Stretch the fabric on the styrofoam, fasten with tacks and stick to the wall with double tape.

How easy is that! Don't forget to let me now if you make similar wall art like this :)

My progress on decorating the boys' room.

The kids' temporary bedroom (yes, it's temporary since the boys definitely need more space.. they grow so fast!) is almost done. Still insufficient storage, but we're progressing for sure.

Although we could barely walk through the living room since it's still full with piles of boxes, I'm definitely in a better mood now :)

a bedroom makeover

Still in the process of my relocating to my homecountry, I guess this wont be over soon...

It's quite crazy, with my home filled with stuff accumulated from years living in Singapore while there's already heap of existing stuff here in Jakarta *whew*.

But I don't compromise with my bedroom. However hectic the house, the bedroom should be the place to relax and let go all the stress. That's where a quick makeover come in handy.

Isn't it wonderful how just a quick change of curtain and bedding could make a difference. While I don't mind the previous bright tropical look, I feel the current modern romantic look is more suitable for my mood right now.

Inspiration: Cozy Nooks

I was browsing Apartment Therapy when I stumbled upon this gorgeous House Tour. If you haven't notice, I've a soft spot for green design - even my final year project was about Green Architecture.

But I'm not going to bore you with some architectural terms now. I just want to share the cozy nooks in the house, which are perfect for lounging around, reading, take a short nap or just gazing outside the window.

Like this sleeping porch, located right next to the master bedroom facing the backyard. It's a fun and cozy twist to the ordinary chair-and-table or bench usually seen in porch or terrace.

Or the dreamy reading nook inside the kid's bedroom. I would've read for hours there!

And do you notice the bay window seating in the living room below? Lovely!

And then there's this unexpected nook above the staircase. It may not save for small kids, but it looks oh so cozy.

I heart Tealight Holders

I heart flickering candle lights!

Why?

Simply because they're so versatile, effortless turn any room ambience to a warm, cozy and even romantic feel. Moreover you can easily move them about in any formation as needed, and the most exciting part is ofcourse the pretty candle holder which can double as home decoration even when the candle light's went out.

However lately I'm crazy about tealights (you know, those small candles inside tincups) coz I find them easier to maintain. Children's Bedroom Wall 'Art'

How I long for my children's bedroom would look like something in the IKEA catalogue.. yeah dream on.

Dunno where the kids get the idea, but few weeks ago the almost-5-years-old-twin-boys started to display their 'art' on their bedroom wall, and their 'collection' is still growing till now.

Well, of course I should be pleased with the idea of putting some graphics and colors on the boring plain wall. But you know how kids are, they just won't let you have all the fun.

For a start, they want to make their own art without any help for me. So off they go with crayons, pens, scissors and tapes. And each time I give suggestions like "Why don't you color it first before you put it on the wall" or "Don't you think the color's too pale?" they just keep going with their work like I'm not even there..

And by the time they put their work up the wall, I must say I'm very proud of their original work of 'art'. Yet I still wish I could do something about it like frame the artwork and put it in some nice grid pattern.. or first make a theme for the bedroom so the kids can make artworks about it only, giving a nicer coordinated look. Hmmm but that means it won't be their original work again, right? ;)

Oh well, these will do for a start :)
