Shawl Tutorial

My dear friend De made a tutorial on how to wear inaku Tie Dye Shawl as a jilbab (headscarf). Not only 1 or 2 but 4 (four!) styles that you could try.

Tutorial: No Sew Versatile Vest

First you need fabric that don't ravel like knit or jersey fabric. Cut 1 x 1.5 m and fold in two as in the drawing.

Next grab your scissors and cut a 20 cm slit like the drawing shown.

Open the fabric, there should be two holes for your arms to go through. And you're done!


Wear it as a hooded vest or simply turn it upside down and wear it as a drape collar vest, each with many styling options. How's that for a versatile piece!

Refashion: Overall Skirt to Harem Jumpsuit

This was an overall skirt that I seldom wear.

Turn it inside out and sew close the bottom part along the red line as shown in the drawing, leaving two holes big enough for your feet to go through. Cut away the excess fabric, turn right side out.

Done.
You can also refashion your midi or maxi full skirt this way. Hope this tutorial is useful in some way, please share if you make something similar.. thank you (^_^)

Easy No Sew Refashion

Before

A loose blouse or tunic (which I found a bit boring).

How-To

1. Pinch the front part of the blouse right in the middle.

2. Bring it up to the neck line like so.

3. Secure with a pretty brooch.

After

A beautiful drapey top!

Refashion: Fairy Top

I just made another refashion and was in a quite good mood to make the tutorial :D

I use my old stretchy shirt and sheer square scarf. Of course you'll also need scissors, needle and matching thread.

Fold the scarf in two with the backside longer than the front. Then cut a part of the scarf in its mid part to match the width of the shirt. Then attach that part to the shirt - mine is right below the bust line, but you're free to attached it at the waist line or else. Since my sewing machine is still in the box then I just hand sewn them together.


And that's pretty much it. I hope it's clear, if not just ask me anytime!

Fabric Wall Art: an upcycling project

I've been wanting to make a fabric panel wall art but haven't found (read: too lazy to look for) the right supplies yet. You know, the one where you stretch a fabric on wood frame (the one for stretching canvas) then fasten it with a staple gun.

So recently I've made my own version of the wall art for the boys' bedroom, after done unpacking almost half of our stuff from the boxes. I made adjustments on the supplies by using leftovers and existing everyday materials.

My formula is:
styrofoam + fabric + tacks + double tape = wall art

How to:
Stretch the fabric on the styrofoam, fasten with tacks and stick to the wall with double tape.

How easy is that! Don't forget to let me now if you make similar wall art like this :)

Handmade Tote in Minutes!

I came across this tutorial in Purl Bee some time ago and thought it's the perfect sewing project both for beginner and expert. It's so simple with clear instruction yet you could get endless result posibilities according to the fabric motives and materials you used.

I made mine just now, on my lazy Sunday. In pink!

yup, that's my handmade suppose-to-be-label name.

Found this tutorial for a quick label some time ago, and I tried to handwrite using permanent fabric marker instead of print on transfer paper (read: I don't have ink transfer paper).

... hmm not a pretty sight :p

really should consider about purchasing those transfer papers!

Red Reversible

Another reversible bag, this time in red color.

Got the tutorial from here, with some adjustments I made - bag's shape and ribbon embroidery details.

It's my first bag!

Another good use for those impulsive buying of IKEA fabric ;)

The pattern is BurdaStyle's Charlie bag, and I made it reversible by using the instructions here.

It functions well as a shopping bag, yet I also find it great for keeping all my craft supplies :)

Kid's Hooded Towel

Got this awesome easy tutorial to make hooded bath towel for kids.

Just in time when my kids were about to start their swimming lessons.. well you can guess what happened next ;)

Tutorial: Sweater Cushion Cover

As this post title suggests, this time I'm gonna try to share a tutorial on how to make a cushion cover out of a sweater. An old one, if I may add.. and it's a fun way to be earth friendly too :)

Well, you don't need a tutorial actually, since it's pretty easy to make..

First, dig into your wardrobe for that old sweater (the ones with turtle neck line work best). I found mine, a furry purple sweater that I haven't wear for ages..


Then turn it inside out, laid it flat n cut away as in above pic.

Next, sew close the freshly cut openings (neckline and armholes). You'll have a nice square shape now, with only one side open to insert the inner cushion. Then I just add some ribbon on that side for closure, which double as a pretty accent as well.


And you're done!
Oh wait.. put in the inner cushion into the new cover, tied close all the ribbons and NOW you're done :)
