Almost forgot to write about this here :D
It all began some time ago, when fellow crafter Dini from Capung Mungil asked me to join her in writing her next craft book (yes, many of her books have been published). I gladly say yes, though not sure what to do :p Thank you again Dini, this is a new worthy experience for me :)

Actually there's not much left to see in this small room.. but hey one can only try to make it look and function better.
So, here at the day bed side I put some wall decal for that punch to the plain white wall and a string to hang my finished products. And that's about it.. for now :D

INACRAFT 2011

A couple of days ago I found time to visit Inacraft 2011, the 13th Jakarta International Handicraft Trade Fair which held in Jakarta Convention Center.


Besides getting overwhelmed with all the pretty stuff there, I'm so happy to finally met lovely Puri from ideku handmade for the first time. 

Too bad teh Lia from Calyx couldn't come to the fair, though you can find her work there. I also visit Amesh from dreamesh and friends' booth but didn't meet them personally.. hopefully I can see them in other occasions :)


For you who happen to be in Jakarta right now, you still have the chance to visit them since the fair is on until Sunday, 24 April. Have fun!  

Fabric Wall Art: an upcycling project

I've been wanting to make a fabric panel wall art but haven't found (read: too lazy to look for) the right supplies yet. You know, the one where you stretch a fabric on wood frame (the one for stretching canvas) then fasten it with a staple gun.

So recently I've made my own version of the wall art for the boys' bedroom, after done unpacking almost half of our stuff from the boxes. I made adjustments on the supplies by using leftovers and existing everyday materials.

My formula is:
styrofoam + fabric + tacks + double tape = wall art

How to:
Stretch the fabric on the styrofoam, fasten with tacks and stick to the wall with double tape.

How easy is that! Don't forget to let me now if you make similar wall art like this :)

Refashion: Fabric Flower Brooch

I got this maxi dress on sale a while ago. Though I like it so much but I seldom wear it because it's too long for me.. it's not the dress, it's super-petite-me. I should've shortened the length long time ago but instead I've finished doing it just now, thanks to my bad habit of procrastinating.

So here it is, the not-so-new dress which now fits me perfectly.
Notice anyting different? :)

Spot on! I've made a fabric flower brooch from the leftover fabric strip. How? It's easy! Just ruffled, tied and attached to the pin, there you have it. Not bad for an upcycling craft.

The Playroom

I saw this playroom in Cheri's blog and very much amazed!
She managed to synchronize the kids' and parents' idea of a perfect playroom. You know how sometimes we adults tend to give way to the mess that the kids refer as fun, or at least I do. Yet with a playroom like this there's no way to complain, really.

Enchanting Indonesia 2010

Last night I and hubby went to the opening of Enchanting Indonesia 4, an event of promoting Indonesia craft and tourism in Singapore.

We each got a batik tote bag filled with Indonesian goodies! From food spices to tourism brochures - giving me a view for next week's menu and next holiday destination.

The opening ceremony was full of traditional and fusion music, dances and fashion shows. Too bad I forgot to bring my camera so I can't share the festive pictures here now. My favourite part is the 'Angklung Interactive Show', where all the audience were given different pitches of angklung to play together as per instruction from the musician on stage. We played numerous songs from Burung Kakak Tua (folk song from Maluku, Indonesia) to Elvis Presley's (forgot the song title). We even get to keep the angklung we played! Ours is number 7 or 'ti', the seventh scale tone.

Ofcourse it wont be a great event without the food and craft bazaar. There are many booths represent many provinces of Indonesia, each with their own distinctive art and culture.

I couldn't resist to buy some of the goodies, like this white tote bag with embroidery of Ondel Ondel from Betawi (natives of Jakarta, Indonesia).

And a beautiful stone and silver pendant from Reny Feby Jewelry.

I drooled over the beautiful traditional textiles like Batik, Ikat and Songket but had to refrain my self since I already have a heap of fabrics that are still untouched. Yet I found some Indonesian Batik which not from Java origin, like this Batik Tabir from Riau. The motives and methods used to make the Batik Tabir Riau is different from the Batik of Java, yet each motive also has a certain meaning like shown below.

The event is still on until tonight, 4 July 2010. So for you who's reading this and happen to be in Singapore, spare your time to visit and experience a piece of Enchanting Indonesia.

Pastel on Fabric

Thanks to mbak Lia who's shared about Pentel Fabric Fun pastel dye sticks with me.

I don't have any idea of what to draw, but since I'm eager to try them then here it is..

I tried them on my first handmade bag, giving it a new look. Now, what will I draw next?..

Mini Me

A couple of days ago I received a small package, it's from Irene of Miu Craft!

Yes, this is one of those art/craft swaps. Inside the pretty package there it was, a necklace that's so pretty and cute which makes my Rustic Clutch that I sent her looks dowdy.

She's so sweet to include a small note inside:

"...I especially made this for you, inspired by you and your blog header.

I hope you like it."

Ofcourse I like it.. LOVE it to be exact!

Wearing the necklace with my toffee coloured tunic, I've never thought before that I could actually pull the look off. But I guess it's not about how old you are, but it's all about how young you feel :D

Rustic Clutch for a Swap

Some time ago I and Irene from Miu Craft agreed to do a craft swap.
I've sent this Multipurpose Rustic Clutch for her. I named it Rustic after the brown colors dominate the fabric (it's IKEA fabric, by the way) and the simple and rustic finishings such as the zigzag stitch at the side and the hand embroidery I made.

The inside is lined with same fabric as the outside yet in opposite colors. Also comes with button closure to secure all the items stored inside.

I'm still waiting for Irene's craft, I'm sure it'll be so cute ^^

Simple Pincushion

Some of my friends have just discover their muse in sewing. So I've made them simple cute pincushions from my fabric scraps.

I sure hope they like and could put these cuties into good use :)

here we go again..

It was kind of an experiment, making this bag. I use faux leather for the material, combined with Batik and IKEA fabric.

It turned out that the faux leather material was not very friendly with my standard sewing machine, so I had to change my original design for me to be able to complete the bag.

Here you can see the inner side, made from IKEA fabric. I didn't put any pocket there, don't know why.. just not in the mood I guess :p

And aren't these green flower buttons so cute? They actually attached the bag strap to the body, not a mere accessory.

DSC Challenge - Placemat

I'm participating in Dollar Store Craft Supply Challenge - Placemat.

For this red purse I use a placemat I got on sale at IKEA. I simply fold it in two then trace and cut the hole for the handle. To prevent fraying I zigzag stitched along the handle hole.

To top it off I embellished the purse with my hand embroidery - I use ribbon instead of thread. There you go, red flower buds made with french knots to compliment the red roses :)

That's not all.. besides being a clutch purse, I sometimes use it as a bag organizer. Like when you want to use a bigger bag, you can just put this purse inside the bag without the hassle of removing all the trinkets from one bag to another (and risk dropping or forgetting some items along the way).
