Starry Night

To the space and beyond!

The boys have a star shaped night lamp and I put a hand towel under making them look like a shooting star. Then hubby mounted the boys' swimming boards on their bedroom's glass door which kinda resemble space rockets :D

Fabric Wall Art: an upcycling project

I've been wanting to make a fabric panel wall art but haven't found (read: too lazy to look for) the right supplies yet. You know, the one where you stretch a fabric on wood frame (the one for stretching canvas) then fasten it with a staple gun.

So recently I've made my own version of the wall art for the boys' bedroom, after done unpacking almost half of our stuff from the boxes. I made adjustments on the supplies by using leftovers and existing everyday materials.

My formula is:
styrofoam + fabric + tacks + double tape = wall art

How to:
Stretch the fabric on the styrofoam, fasten with tacks and stick to the wall with double tape.

How easy is that! Don't forget to let me now if you make similar wall art like this :)

it's coming together....

....slooooowly.

The kids' temporary bedroom (yes, it's temporary since the boys definitely need more space.. they grow so fast!) is almost done. Still insufficient storage, but we're progressing for sure.

Although we could barely walk through the living room since it's still full with piles of boxes, I'm definitely in a better mood now :)

The Playroom

I saw this playroom in Cheri's blog and very much amazed!
She managed to synchronize the kids' and parents' idea of a perfect playroom. You know how sometimes we adults tend to give way to the mess that the kids refer as fun, or at least I do. Yet with a playroom like this there's no way to complain, really.

Read about Cheri's quest for a perfect playroom here. Don't forget to watch the video to see the complete room with its fun details.

More children's decoration.. Pillows!

You may call it throw pillow, accent pillow, or cushion, it's still the same thing.. it's soft, huggable and usually nice to look at.

Feathers For Nest has some new pillows! Made from handwoven cotton fabric, and coloured with traditional handstamped batik. The twist here is that the color is bright orange which is a very fun color for your children.

What's more, the pillows are embellished with fun flannel felt applications, all hand made :)

Now imagine how pretty these gems would look in your children's bedroom, or their playroom, study room, or even in the living room.

I heart throw pillows coz they are soooo versatile!

Don't you think so? :)

Butterflies on Shirt

I made this for my friend's daughter, for her belated birthday present to be exact :p
A plain white shirt with some pretty butterfly felt applications, and not forgetting the birthday girl's name embroidered on it.

Not in the mood to make a birthday card, I just use a tag I bought in IKEA and attach it to the shirt.

I particularly like how the felt butterflies can flap since I only embroidered the center part of them.
So to prevent fraying, I put a note on the back side of the birthday tag *Doh, really need to improve my handwriting!*

for the kids

My twin sons have their own color preference. One likes red, and the other one likes blue.

The same goes for their favourite cartoon characters. One likes Thomas train, the other likes Ben 10.

So I made these for them..

Inspiration: Strawberries

pic's from boxtedberries

On last holiday to my homeland (why oh why I only get inspired during holiday trips), we went to this nice small restaurant with a small strawberry field where we could handpick the fresh red fruits. Though I prefer the strawberries to be served with chocolate fondue or as milkshakes or garnished on a cheesecake, yet the fresh whole fruit is already tempting with its red delicious color. *hey wait a minute.. I'm not trying to write a culinary review here.. oh well*

Anyway, one of my twin boys LLove strawberries. Why? Simply because they're RED (guess what his favourite color is ;)).

Maybe I should say (write) that this 'Inspiration:' not only comes from strawberries, but also from children as well. At first I want it to be something that all children (girls and boys) can enjoy. But then my feminine side won ;) and here it goes, the Pink Strawberry series :)

The Pink Strawberry series comprise of pink colored cushion covers complete with a (yes, pink) table runner, all with pretty red strawberries on it. The design is sweet and fun enough for the small girls, yet simple and elegant enough for their mommies too :D

Your lil girls will love to have her tea party table dressed in this pretty runner. Yet, it can also serve as bed runner or wall display! The lovely tassels effortlessly enhance the fun in a girly manner.

And ofcourse don't forget about the versatile pillow/ cushion. As a floor cushion in the playroom, or a throw pillow on the couch in the nursery room, or a huggable accent pillow for the girls' bed, or in anyway you can think of (like on your terrace chair for that pink twist in the midst of your garden's greeneries).

So see you in Feathers For Nest for a strawberry themed tea party ;)

Oh and don't forget to check out our special offer for every purchase of inner cushion along with its cover!

Children's Bedroom Wall 'Art'

How I long for my children's bedroom would look like something in the IKEA catalogue.. yeah dream on.

Dunno where the kids get the idea, but few weeks ago the almost-5-years-old-twin-boys started to display their 'art' on their bedroom wall, and their 'collection' is still growing till now.

Well, of course I should be pleased with the idea of putting some graphics and colors on the boring plain wall. But you know how kids are, they just won't let you have all the fun.

For a start, they want to make their own art without any help for me. So off they go with crayons, pens, scissors and tapes. And each time I give suggestions like "Why don't you color it first before you put it on the wall" or "Don't you think the color's too pale?" they just keep going with their work like I'm not even there..

And by the time they put their work up the wall, I must say I'm very proud of their original work of 'art'. Yet I still wish I could do something about it like frame the artwork and put it in some nice grid pattern.. or first make a theme for the bedroom so the kids can make artworks about it only, giving a nicer coordinated look. Hmmm but that means it won't be their original work again, right? ;)

Oh well, these will do for a start :)
